I am going to make this a short one, because it really doesn’t deserve much of my time. Earlier in the week, black adult film star, Brian Pumper, found himself caught up in one of those legendary internet rumors – he was alleged to have contracted the HIV virus from Montana Fishburne aka spawn of Laurence. Other rumors also suggested he had been HIV positive since 2004 and faked the required monthly blood test adult entertainers are required to take(without any explanation how that would be possible). Some blog reported that Brian Pumper was HIV positive and the news spread like wildfire all over Twitter(making him a trending topic) and the other social network sites. News of straight porn stars becoming HIV positive always goes viral, partly because it doesn’t happen very often and also due to our obsession with sex. Anyone with half a brain cell could tell that this was not investigative journalism at its best. To say the article was flawed, would be an understatement. I dismissed the news as quickly as I had scanned through the article. What bothered me, was how keen members of our community(straight and gay) were to spread the news, including black gay porn stars, who you would think should know better. Not to mention the fact that they live in extremely huge glass houses. Why spread news of someone being HIV positive without any concrete proof? Why were black people tweeting #R.I.P. Brian Pumper, when there was no suggestion that he had died? Of course, very early the next day, Brian Pumper made a YouTube video to dispel the rumors and of course, he is HIV negative, which is a good thing, because I don’t wish that on anyone.(see below).

While I totally understand the fact that anyone would be mad if such a false rumor were spread about them, his video was equally as ignorant as those who were tweeting about him being HIV positive. Does Brian Pumper really think that the success he has had in the adult industry is due to only straight men buying his videos? It is well known that he has a huge gay fan base, so how wise was it to repeatedly use “Fa**ot” in his video? Yes, I get it, you are mad and quite rightly so, but there is a difference between being mad and being ignorant, not to mention dumb. Well, maybe he isn’t that dumb, because I’m sure there will be tons of black gay men, who will see nothing wrong with his use of the word and even justify it by saying “I would have said the same thing”. Just because you would have said it, doesn’t make it any less ignorant and let’s not forget, dude is a self-confessed heterosexual(whatever you might think) who makes tons of money from black gay men. No doubt, the same black gay fans will all rush to buy his next DVD, or watch it on AEBN(just like the females sitting there while he says B*tches will continue spreading their legs). It really isn’t so much the fact that he said it, as it is the fact that a lot of his black gay fans will see nothing wrong with him saying it. He hadn’t just heard the news, he was recording a planned video, so this wasn’t just some knee-jerk reaction to the awful rumors. Our inability to look beyond the surface and to stop accepting certain things as the norm is quite saddening. Apart from the use of the F word, there is just so much buffoonery in this video(apart from the beginning with the lady from the clinic), on so many levels, that it is embarrassing to watch. HIV positive? No. Ignorant and Dumb? Yes – and that goes for the cretins, who started the rumor and spread it as well.

I’m actually quite a huge fan of Brian Pumper and I found his comments ignorant on quite a few levels as well…1) You never alienate any part of your fanbase if you want their continued support, 2) Faggot/gay as a synonym for bad is ignorant and crass, 3) He is doing nothing to advance the image of African-Americans in this video.
I also agree how sad it is that we just except abuse as a type of norm, we shake our asses to songs that call the person dancing to them b&*@, whore, hoe, slut, etc. We call lines that talk about unfair situations like “what’s up with your best friend” (totally disrespectful to someone your dating) as cold or dope. I personally try to promote intelligence and respect for our community.
Brian Pumper is really ignorant. It is a sad thing that people will spread rumors of someone having HIV/AIDS, especially given the stigma around it. I do believe that Brian Pumper is probably an undercover brotha, but given the fact that he has a large gay following, maybe the LGBT community should boycott him after such behavior.
i watch this video, this is my first time seeing tis guy. i dont see what so exciting about brain pumper’ he is not that intellegent if you ask me. i am a guy man, and he is not xciting at all. plus i dont like the way he put down gay people. he a sorry ass, it bastard, he is such a closest case. he will never get a cent of mine, the sun dont rise and set in his ass like he think.
I dont watch Straight porn anymore, Im Gay therefore I only watch Gay Porn and have been for the past 10 years so Brain Pumper is old news to me and is not relevant to anything Gay until he starts doing Gay porn so I look at him just like any other hetero guy not a cause for concern unless he is physically attacking me!
